FINE PRINT AUCTION and FUNDRAISER
Tuesday, March 16, 2004, 6 - 10 pm
The Warwick Hotel, 5701 Main Street, Houston

Auctioneering services donated by Denise Bethel, VP of Sotheby’s Inc., New York.

“The FotoFest Benefit Auction is one of the best opportunities I know to acquire works by photographers who may be on the cusp of international market fame,” Ms. Bethel states. “There are some very smart institutions and collectors who have been bidding wisely in the FotoFest Auction for years.”

105 contemporary international and U.S. artists participated in FotoFest’s Sixth International Fine Print Auction. The auction provided a rare opportunity to find high quality contemporary fine art photography from Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the United States. View Auction Prints.

The auction took place on Tuesday, March 16, from 6-10 p.m. with a Reception, Buffet, and Live Auction at The Warwick Hotel in Houston’s Museum District. Denise Bethel, Senior Vice President, Auctioneer, and Director of the Photography Department at Sotheby’s Inc., New York, conducted the live auction. Sotheby’s, Inc donated Ms. Bethel’s services as auctioneer.

The Preview Reception for the Auction was Wednesday, March 3, 6-8 pm, at Gremillion Gallery, 2501 Sunset. Auction prints were available for viewing at Gremillion Gallery March 4-15.

Revenues from print sales at the Fine Print Auction benefit artist programs, and the Meeting Place portfolio reviews allowing hundreds of photographic artists to exhibit work and show their portfolios to important museum curators, publishers, gallery owners, and representatives of photo agencies from the United States, Mexico, South America, Australia, Canada and Europe.

Proceeds from Auction ticket and table sales benefit FotoFest’s year-round Literacy Through Photography (LTP) in Houston-area public schools. LTP provides more than a thousand students with cameras and a curriculum using photography to improve writing and cognitive skills. Students are asked to photograph people, places, and events important in their lives, analyze their pictures, and write about these subjects. "My students have developed their creativity and ... their language skills have improved because they are able to express their feelings through a picture they can relate to - they go on and on when creating stories and show pride in their work." Mr. Obed Franco, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Houston.
